The Alberta Hotel & Lodging Association has created a robust series of online video training modules to help your hotel quickly and effectively train and onboard staff. The training program is developed by industry for industry, taking its initial framework from the curriculum taught at Olds College's Hospitality and Tourism program. It is geared towards frontline workers along with those in middle management looking to gain leadership skills. These video modules were developed in partnership with The Studio at Olds College and with the goal of supporting AHLA members and strengthening Alberta’s tourism and hospitality industry.
There are three streams of focus including:

Each stream is split up into a series of modules that focus on different areas vital to the successful operation of a hotel.

THE STUDIO at OLDS COLLEGE
The Studio at Olds College is a full-service video production team and equipment rental service. Working closely with the college and industry partners, The Studio’s primary goal is to create professional and engaging videos for training and education that ultimately enhance the overall learning experience.

David Lund partnered with the AHLA and The Studio at Olds College to create the Financial Leadership video courses.
Hotel Operations is designed for those individuals that are interested in employment within the hospitality sector or who are new the industry and are looking to gain an introductory knowledge of hotel operations. This course contains nine unique sections that will provide a full-picture of hotel operations: Introduction To The Accommodation Industry, Introduction To The Tourism Industry, Communication, Customer Service, Front Office, Housekeeping, Sales, Security and Food & Beverage.

SUPERVISION & MANAGEMENT
Supervision & Management is designed for those individuals that already have preliminary hospitality industry experience and are looking to move into middle-management or supervisory positions. This course will focus more on the development of leadership and communication skills and contains interviews and panel discussions with industry leaders as they share their knowledge and experience. This course contains four unique section: Introduction To Supervision & Management, Communication & Quality Service, Human Resources and Marketing.

Everyone says the numbers are the hard part of hospitality, but that’s simply not true. It’s just that those particular “financial muscles” aren’t typically flexed that often. Leadership and skills around the numbers is a critical key to a successful hotel career and now there is a solution with the Hospitality Financial Leadership Video Series. David Lund is the Hotel Financial coach and
the host of this series which contains over 100 videos in three sections (Launch, Midway and Leading). These micro video lessons help to build a financial foundation with everything you need to know about the hotel financials.
This is NOT an accounting course. It’s hotel business thinking!
Interested in receiving certification as an individual or for your employees?
Tourism Works and the Alberta Hotel & Lodging Association is pleased to offer certification through Continuing Education at Olds College. Certification is offered for both the Hotel Operations as well as the Supervision & Management courses. The learners will be required to watch a video (or series) of videos prior to proceeding with the assessments. This course, and accompanying videos, was developed with active leaders in the hospitality industry who were kind enough to lend their knowledge and experience to this training program.
